Your Neighborhood Educational Resource Center!

Dear Neighbors, Friends, and Community Members,

As you may already know, SOS Learning Lab, LLC partners with a State of Michigan Alternative Virtual High School called DCI (Diploma and Careers Institute) and TCAPS: TCH-SOS. We provide support services for both partners, helping young people in our community earn their high school diploma. Many area high schools send students to us because they need a flexible opportunity to finish their schooling! The majority of our students are 18-22 and are living independently. Some of our students have children of their own.

One of the struggles many of our families are experiencing is food insecurity. We are currently working on “Family Food Boxes” to provide some relief. Food items are packed up and ready for handout any time a student lets us know (or we ask) if they have/need food. This need arises every single day. With the SNAP assistance in jeopardy this upcoming month, we are very concerned for some of the students and their families.

We currently have access to TCAPS student support and the TCH food pantry. We also send students to Project Feed the Kids, Father Fred, etc. Sometimes transportation to food banks is a barrier, and being able to grab a box from a familiar face makes the hardship a little easier.  We are often asked by friends, family, and community members, “What can I do to help?”

If you would like to help, please see the specific list of items that we know benefit our families. If you prefer to donate $ towards our boxes, that works too! Each box costs about $50 to fill and can feed a single student for about a week. We also have a freezer on site. When a student/parent picks up a box, we add frozen items such as bread, meat, frozen fruit & vegetables, if they have access to refrigeration/freezer.

How you can help:

  • Venmo: @soslearninglab

  • Cash/check can be dropped off during business hours posted on our website.

  • Food/other items for the food boxes

Thank you so much for any help you can give! Please connect if you have any questions.

Always Grateful,
